Seals and Sea Lions

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

My favourite part of Cornwall.

The National Seal Sanctuary.

Where they rescue injured/sick seals and abandoned seal pups. And also sea lions. Seals are cuter though. Much fatter. Sea lions - just plain noisy.

Baby common seal through underwater aquarium.

Right. I thought 4 days by the beach, better pack essential beach gear.

Swimsuit - check

Sun tan lotion - check

Trashy novel - check

Unfortunately……

Porthcourno Beach - Water was about 4 degrees. So much for swimming.

As expected it was cloudy and drizzly for the first 2 days. And it was too cold to go about in a tankini. So much for a tan.

There really wasn’t much beach. Lots of cliffs and hikes up scary cliff thingys. So much for lounging around and reading my trashy jackie collins novel.

But…..it was so gorgeous that it didn’t matter. The water was crystal clear and bright torquoise.

Highlights :

St Ives - My brush with nature

Marazion Beach - Windsurfing. Damn difficult. Lasted about 5 minutes before I rammed into 3 other fellow windsurfers. My body aches but it was worth it!

Minnack Theatre - Open air theatre. Yes they even perform in the rain. Except if there’s lightning of course. That would just be stupid.Pict0092_9

Land’s End - Hike from hell. Got over my fear of heights.

So how depressing was it to start work on Tuesday. Very.

Capote - yeah right!

Monday, April 10th, 2006

Can someone please tell me what the hell Capote is on about?

I thought right skive off work on a sunny Monday afternoon, cos’ its Al’s birthday and catch a movie - Capote.

I guessed that it was going to be one of those artsy movie types(I should’ve learnt from my experience with The Hours - yeah the hours I spent sleeping through the film.Damn film still gives me goosebumps). But I thought it got nominated for an Oscar(again I should have learnt from my experience with ‘The Hours’ - more like ‘The Horror’), so how wrong can the movie go. Very wrong.

How did Phillip Seymour Hoffman win an Oscar - I don’t know. I guess talking in high-pitched voice compared to animating a gay sex scene(Brokeback Mountain) does it for the people that decide. Yes still very sore that Brokeback Mountain only won Best Director. The only role I can picture him in is that whiny reporter in Red Dragon where he gets set on fire on a wheelchair and rolled down a hill while he BURNS to death.

Only upside - the violence - and I’m really not a gory type of person. Although I did step on a headless pigeon this morning. It was early and I wasn’t looking.

All in all wasted afternoon. Should have gone for Ice Age 2.

A little Rant

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

This has not been been a good week at work. No sireeee….. And its only Tuesday morning.

I am currently working with 2 guys in my team.

One who thinks he’s God’s gift to corporate finance although check this out he’s only joined the firm for 6 months, yes a fresh uni grad.

I hate hate hate him. Keeps giving wrong opinions, making inappropriate jokes, just being very generally very annoying. Repeat I CANNOT STAND HIM.

The other one just thinks he’s God’s gift to everything. Anything that anyone does is crap. And yes he likes to put everyone down.

I hate him even more.

Generally my day is spent trying to figure out who I HATE most.
Now how the fudging hell do I deal with SOBs like these?!
Would like to kick them in the balls.
But have to resort to totally ignoring them and whinging to everyone else.
Bring back Foxy!!!
